Madison County Open Horse Show Rules & Information

 

1.    Show is open to only 4-H or FFA members and their horses currently identified in their county.  ID sheets or FFA card may be requested. (FFA members must be in high school or just completed the 12th grade).

 

2.    Age of class division is as follows:  Senior 9-12th grade, Intermediates 7-8th grade, and Juniors 4-6th grade.  This is based on grade just completed.

 

3.    Ponies are classified as 56” & under.  Animals may be measured. 

 

4.    Entries must be turned in 2 classes prior to the class to be entered. (One rider/horse/class)

 

5.    No stallions are allowed.

 

6.    Exhibitors in all classes are to wear 4-H or FFA show attire including long-sleeved white shirt shirt/blouse, jeans, heeled boots, and ATSM/SEI approved helmet.  4-H or FFA armbands are also required and should be worn on the left arm.  4-H armbands will be available for sale day of show. 

 

7.    English attire is optional, but English tack is required for the English classes.

 

8.    Some classes may be combined or split, depending on the number of entries in class.

 

9.    A 5 second penalty will be assessed per barrel or pole knocked over.  A no-time will be called for a broken pattern.  The gate must be closed before running pattern.  The rider will dismount and lead their horse from the arena after their run.

 

10.   ASTM/SEI approved protective helmet with a properly fitted harness is required when mounted and riding/driving….EVERY TIME, EVERY RIDE.

 

11.   Any exhibitor showing disrespect to their horse or other exhibitors will be disqualified as determined by show committee.

 

12.   If an exhibitor enters Class #14, walk-trot, the exhibitor will be ineligible to enter any other riding classes.  This class is for the exhibitor who is not ready to lope.  It is not based on the horse’s abilities.

 

13. Exhibitors entered in classes #7, #15, & #16 may only enter these classes. See Adaptive Riding Division Section in Rules and Regulations for 4-H Equine Shows in Iowa for details.

 

14.   Exact timing of all performance classes is subject to change the day of the show depending on the attendance.
